Blog Post 5: Changes to my study programme

Imagen
I am a first-year journalism student, and because of this, as I'm just starting my university career, I don't yet have the necessary perspective to know what changes could be made to the curriculum. It's possible that I would add courses related to new technologies, such as artificial intelligence or online media, in addition to traditional media. Considering it from that perspective, perhaps a much more updated infrastructure may be necessary. The television studio is becoming obsolete compared to other journalism schools. Also, in other countries, the degree takes four years, unlike in Chile, where its formal duration is five years. Journalism is the major with the highest percentage of regrets after completing the degree, and this might be due to how precarious journalistic work has become. Journalists typically have to realize multiple roles in their work since journalistic outlets seek to save as much as possible on costs. In addition to this, journalists tend to be ...

Blog Post 4: Time travel to the past or future

Imagen
Since I was a kid, I have dreamed of traveling to the future. I used to watch TV programs about that theme, like Futurama or The Jetsons, and it made me ask me regarding the technological advances in the future. Living at the same time while computers, smartphones, artificial intelligence, or virtual reality are being develop, It´s almost like living in the future. I really enjoy watching the new features of technological companies like Apple, Samsung, or Huawei. This last is my favorite. I know the future can be bad because pollution is (and will be) a serious problem. The ONU proposed the 2030 agenda for sustentability, so I believe that it could be a first step in the right direction. I often think that technology is similar to a double-edged sword because it could make your life easier, but it pollutes too much. Ironically, to solve this problem, we have to develop more technology, but with renewable energy. I am a person who needs to be in different spaces constantly, so I don´...

Blog Post 3: My dream job

Imagen
Always i´ve thought that an office job would be torture and the worst place to work. I hate being in a place doing the same thing all day; my concentration does not contribute much. So, my dream job will have to be dynamic, preferentially outside or in a big place because I don't like close spaces (claustrophobia, hahaha). I think that a job that has these conditions is being a reporter. Obviously, it must have some parts that I don’t like, but in summary, I think it is the best job for me. I imagine that a reporter is constantly traveling to different places, so the reporter needs to be an adaptive person and should have clear diction. I believe the worst part of working as a reporter is the salary. The average salary for a reporter is between $500 and $100,000. It sounds pretty much, but considering the cost of living in Chile, it's not a decent wage. Money matters, of course, but I still love the world of journalism. If you don’t notice, my major is journalism. I consid...

Blog Post 2: The best holidays ever

Imagen
My best holiday ever was a trip that I made in December 2019, when I was 14 years old, to the Chilean Patagonia. The trip was organized by my history teacher because it was a study trip. We travel to learn principally about the native people and the geography. It may sound boring, but it wasn´t. I made my friend group on that holiday with people of my generation who were in class B (I was in class C). The people with whom I traveled were only high school students and three teachers. We toured for seven days. The first place was Punta Arenas, where we knew the cementary and the main square, Plaza Muñoz Gamero. The main square has a statue that has a legend that says that those who kiss the foot of the statue will return to Punta Arenas. We visited a lot of places, like Tierra del Fuego, Puerto Natales, and Torres del Paine. I think that the best part was knowing the Fuerte Bulnes, not only for its relevant history, but also because from this place you can see Dawson Island, a cente...

Blog post 1: A country that I would like to visit

Imagen
Australia is a fascinating country. I'd like to go because it has an important university that I love, the University of Sidney. This university has a magnificent classic building and is one of the best higher education institution in communication courses. This country has a lot of poisonous animals and is the sixth-biggest country in the world. Its capital isn´t Sidney or Melbourn, it's Canberra, located south of Sidney. If I travel to this land, I will tour the country and share video blogs with my friends. Maybe I will travel to the neighboring countries, like Indonesia, East Timor, Papua New Guinea, and New Zealand. Obviously, I try the local food and learn the traditions. Principally, I want to study there for one semester, but it´s probably that I stay to live there. It will depend on whether I find a stable job. I love the idea of making friends from different continents, so it would be an excellent opportunity to do that.
