Blog Post 5: Changes to my study programme

Imagen
I am a first-year journalism student, and because of this, as I'm just starting my university career, I don't yet have the necessary perspective to know what changes could be made to the curriculum. It's possible that I would add courses related to new technologies, such as artificial intelligence or online media, in addition to traditional media. Considering it from that perspective, perhaps a much more updated infrastructure may be necessary. The television studio is becoming obsolete compared to other journalism schools. Also, in other countries, the degree takes four years, unlike in Chile, where its formal duration is five years. Journalism is the major with the highest percentage of regrets after completing the degree, and this might be due to how precarious journalistic work has become. Journalists typically have to realize multiple roles in their work since journalistic outlets seek to save as much as possible on costs. In addition to this, journalists tend to be ...

Blog Post 4: Time travel to the past or future

Imagen
Since I was a kid, I have dreamed of traveling to the future. I used to watch TV programs about that theme, like Futurama or The Jetsons, and it made me ask me regarding the technological advances in the future. Living at the same time while computers, smartphones, artificial intelligence, or virtual reality are being develop, It´s almost like living in the future. I really enjoy watching the new features of technological companies like Apple, Samsung, or Huawei. This last is my favorite. I know the future can be bad because pollution is (and will be) a serious problem. The ONU proposed the 2030 agenda for sustentability, so I believe that it could be a first step in the right direction. I often think that technology is similar to a double-edged sword because it could make your life easier, but it pollutes too much. Ironically, to solve this problem, we have to develop more technology, but with renewable energy. I am a person who needs to be in different spaces constantly, so I don´...

Blog Post 3: My dream job

Always i´ve thought that an office job would be torture and the worst place to work. I hate being in a place doing the same thing all day; my concentration does not contribute much. So, my dream job will have to be dynamic, preferentially outside or in a big place because I don't like close spaces (claustrophobia, hahaha). I think that a job that has these conditions is being a reporter. Obviously, it must have some parts that I don’t like, but in summary, I think it is the best job for me. I imagine that a reporter is constantly traveling to different places, so the reporter needs to be an adaptive person and should have clear diction. I believe the worst part of working as a reporter is the salary. The average salary for a reporter is between $500 and $100,000. It sounds pretty much, but considering the cost of living in Chile, it's not a decent wage. Money matters, of course, but I still love the world of journalism. If you don’t notice, my major is journalism. I consid...
